We are having quite a nice summer; after what seems likes months of rain. The gardens are blooming, and the hanging arrangements are finally in full flower.
Thank you to Ashley, for his endless efforts. He really takes pride in the gardens and grounds and we all reap the benefits. The new bird boxes in the Garden Wing grounds (painted by various residents during an arts and crafts morning.) look really effective and cheerful too.
The sunken garden has now been fully renovated and is available for all residents to use. We have put a table and four chairs down by the waterfall so anyone can take a walk, sit to listen to the sound of the waterfall and enjoy the beautiful garden and wildlife.
Next year we plan to extend the access to this garden by putting a pathway from the mainhome driveway, across the lawn to the sunken garden. This will allow wheelchairs easy access to the area. We will also be putting handrails along the side of pathways to assist residents.
With the garden finished we have looked at additional uses for it and have decided to build a Summer House, in the area currently bare and covered in wood bark. The Summer House will allow us to provide a space for residents and relatives for private parties and get-togethers and we also intend to use it as a ‘training shed’ for all our care training. We plan to have the project completed by April of next year.
The garden was used to wonderful effect recently, for the wedding of Ann’s daughter, Harriet. When the photos of the day become available Ann intends to present them as a show in the Upstairs Sitting Room. Many of you joined the celebrations for a hog roast, the day after the wedding. It was great to see so many of you, with your families, enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
We will be hosting village fete again this year – 7 September 2019 at 2pm. There will be a dance demonstration by Glen Badham; followed by a dance competition for visitors. There will be the usual stalls and games for children and afternoon tea will be available. All funds raised will go the St Helens church.
Please remember the minibus is available to take you on outings. If anyone would like to visit Market Harborough, go for coffee or visit local attractions please let a member of activity staff know and they will be happy to arrange this for you. We were delighted to welcome pupils from Welford School to Sibbertoft in June. Some residents have been involved in assisting with projects surrounding core subjects recently and the children visited to discuss historical toys and games. Residents and children played together for the morning and then the children had a picnic within the grounds. It is hoped that the relationship between Sibbertoft Manor and the school will continue in the next academic year. Fee, is volunteering to assist the children with reading progress on a weekly basis from September and has done so many times this term. If any other residents would like to join her they would be very welcome. The children benefit hugely from individuals taking the time to listen to them and encouraging their reading skills. Jon, will take the minibus weekly so please let us know if you are interested in attending.
